Last Satuday's (27-10-07) meet was really informative. We have gained infromation about Ubuntu installation part as well as features of puppy linux. I am working on Gparted linux now. I will inform you the details about this  in next meet. I am looking forward to increase the participation of other technical persons in the open source software. Let's be to gether & definetly we are going to achive few milestones.

Hi everyone at LUKSH !!

My apologies for the delay in my Feedback. Here it is anyways ...
  • Going by the present status, most of the users at APNALAYA have begun to CRAWL and any shift in the operating system or applications will throw them entirely out of gear.
  • Secondly, a NASSCOM initiative permits APNALAYA to purhcase legal copies of Microsoft products at 95-97% discounts. This intiative should drive away most of their fears about PIRATED software.
  • Thirdly, if they continue to use Microsoft products, they still have an opportunity to develop CUSTOMISED software in Open Source and need not worry about compatibility.
  • Ultimately, Apnalaya needs to go ONLINE .. i.e. all the activities of Apnalaya are fed into a database (on a LINUX server) and can be accessed from anywhere <> anytime.. .  thereby making it easy for anyone to perform Impact Analysis, Epidemiology studies, etc.

Other clients with whom I work are already using Legal Copies of S/W, custom made S/W as well as Freeware (compiled with Open Source) thereby reducing their chances of switching to LINUX.

While I would personally like to upgrade my knowlegde on Linux and other applications, I may not be able to do so due to many other commitments (professional as well as voluntary) which take away a lot of my time.

I sincerely wish the group at LUKSH all the best for every endeavour and please feel free to keep in touch.

Best regards

Dear Percy Ghaswala

I think it might be our fault we could not communicated with you regarding FREE SOFTWARE . The other thing might be possible you might have misunderstood the free software with as ZERO-COST. I wish to refresh your knowledge about free software,  In very simple language  even if NASSCOM or Microsoft give you their software copies 100% free of charge or even pay you to use their software which might be possible in future. Their software still is not free software. Because their softwares are not FREE as Freedom of Speech. The Free Software are base on four Freedom which are directly related to freedom of Speech. I hope you know what is freedom of speech is. The other term of freedom of speech is free expression. I you want yourself or your clients to be free in the cyberspace please consider  free software one again . The software is NOT free if anyone of following four freedom are missing .

Freedom 0:

The freedom to run the program for any purpose.

Freedom 1:

The freedom to study and modify the program.

Freedom 2:

The freedom to copy the program so you can help your neighbor.

Freedom 3:

The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits.

Regards

13th October 2007 Feedback from YUVA

Dear LUKSH Team,

It was impressive meet on last saturday on GNU subject. I am proud to be associated with this group.
I was representing from YUVA (NGO) whose I.T. facility is being maintained by us.

Many concepts are cleared in the meeting & I am excited to know more about GNU distributions, their implementation & technical part. Since I am grown in Microsoft's world there are many queries related to GNU. There was always a question in my mind about how & where to get the proper resources about this as this is the ocean & without the right direction I will be drwan into it but after meeting you I was impressed with your knwoledge in this field & decided to start R & D on this.
